SAN DIEGO (NMCSD) – Operational Health Support Unit (OHSU) San Diego held its change of command ceremony aboard Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) on Dec 2.
Captain Lynne F. Blankenberger assumed command of OHSU, relieving Capt. Thomas L. Bowers.
“I am humbled and honored to be selected as part of the OHSU San Diego command,” said Capt. Blankenberger. “It is truly an honor and privilege to step into these very big shoes.”
Blankenberger previously served as a chairwoman for the 2016 Navy Reserve Policy Board and served as OHSU Portsmouth Assistant Officer in Charge. She spent nearly seven years on active duty before transitioning to the Reserve Corps. She currently works as the Director of Risk Management/Safety Officer/ Chief compliance officer for the George Washington University Hospital in the District of Columbia.
Bowers offered gratitude towards OHSU Sailors and well wishes towards the command’s future in his final marks.
“I will not forget the advice given to me: when you ascend into positions of leadership look at what others have done before you, leverage their successes, and take care of your people,” said Bowers. “Give them a vision and a general direction: don’t micromanage. They will take care of the rest.”
Bowers recently joined the faculty at the University of Florida College of Dentistry as the Director of Undergraduate Surgical Programs. He is also currently the Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon President.
