The 20th Force Support Squadron hosted Frosty Fest, a family-friendly winter celebration for Team Shaw members, at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, Dec. 17.
The event was the first of its kind at Shaw and attracted approximately 4,500 guests who had the opportunity to play in an estimated 60 short tons of snow, compete against each other in games, take a photo with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, shop from local vendors and enjoy musical entertainment.
“This was an idea that we had back in August or July of this past year,” said Lisa Stevens, 20th FSS deputy director. “We don’t get a lot of snow in South Carolina and wanted to try to recreate that white Christmas feeling here.”
Besides providing a fun experience for the Shaw community, 20th FSS Airmen also designed Frosty Fest to bring together service members and their families during the holiday season.
“Everyone’s away from home and it brings home to them and brings them out so they can socialize,” said Tech. Sgt. Lucas Hochstein, U.S. Air Forces Central Command vehicle support craftsman and event attendee.
While some Team Shaw members plan to travel to spend time with friends and relatives this holiday season, Frosty Fest provided an opportunity for the entire base community to support each other and strengthen the links of the Air Force family.
