The Army Reserve Aviation Command (ARAC) officially marked the conclusion of a multi-year transition from the 11th Theater Aviation Command to the ARAC by uncasing its new colors in a ceremony held at the iconic Hangar One on Fort Knox’s Godman Army Airfield in November.
The uncasing ceremony signifies the completion of the command’s campaign of establishing two fully deployable Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigades (ECAB); the 11th ECAB and 244th ECAB.
The new organizational colors are emblazoned with the new Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI), a blue shield shaped embroidered item edged with a golden orange border. The colors ultramarine blue and golden orange are attributed to Army Aviation. Blue represents the domain of the battlefield in which Army Aviation operates. Gold is emblematic of excellence and authority. The phoenix signifies the birth and rise to flight of reserve aviation from its beginnings as an individual augmenting force in Viet Nam to a single, Senior Mission Command Headquarters, responsible for all Army Reserve Aviation units. The two stars denote the two subordinate ECABs and their down-trace units.
The uncasing ceremony was the crowning event that officially brings a close to Reserve Aviation’s implementation of the U.S. Army Aviation Restructuring Initiative (ARI). This nearly two-year process allowed us to realize changes to our structure, mission sets and respective Mission Essential Task Lists (METL).
Though the ARAC is now a Table Distribution of Allowances (TDA) entity, it maintains a clearly defined METL. This is to reinforce to every member of the team, military and civilian, that we will continuously labor to support the mission success of our ECABs in support of the U.S. Army’s Total Force effort.
These changes signify a new era of U.S. Army Reserve Aviation, and is summed up in our new way forward: To be able to provide the nation with the most capable, combat ready, and lethal federal Army Reserve Aviation forces in order to win our nation’s war abroad and protect and the defend the homeland in an increasingly complex world.
