Marines and dancers prepared backstage for FootLoose Dance Studio’s winter showcase at the 3rd Floor Theater Dec. 14 in Koza Music Town, Okinawa, Japan.
Marines helped the dancers from FootLoose Dance Studio make speedy costume changes and to keep the show running smoothly as they performed their end of the year showcase themed, “We Love Okinawa.”
“I feel like I’m really getting to know the dancers being backstage with them where all the energy and emotions are running free,” said Pvt. Krysten Gomez, a combat photographer with Marine Corps Installations Pacific-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan. “I got to see a whole different side of the show and lend a helping hand with whatever they needed.”
While some Marines were helping backstage, others were working behind the scenes, setting up the appropriate backdrop to each dance.
“I think it is good for the dancers to see that their service members are willing to serve the community in different capacities and do things selflessly,” said Ahern, the FootLoose Dance Studio manager.
Following the performance, the dancers and Marines were called to the stage and recognized for their hard work and performance.
“More Marines should volunteer,” said Gomez. “It’s an opportunity to get out of the barracks, do something you’ve never done, meet some great people and overall just do something great, which makes you feel good too.”
