MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Dec. 14, 2017) – A Sailor and a Marine were awarded medals in a Dec. 14 ceremony here, for their outstanding meritorious service while serving with Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Geoffrey Hawkins, leading chief logistics specialist for the Nuclear Supply Chain of the Submarine and Aircraft Carrier Operations Directorate of NAVSUP WSS, was awarded a Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal after serving with distinction for nearly three years. Hawkins will be transferring to the newest Virginia-class attack submarine USS Montana (SSN-794), still under construction at Newport News Shipbuilding, Virginia.

Lt. Col. Haynesly Blake, Director of the Amphibious Expeditionary Hull Mechanical and Electrical Directorate with NAVSUP WSS, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal after serving with distinction for the past four and a half years and will also be retiring at the end of this year after more than 25 years of service to the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy.

Hawkins is a native of Hamilton, Ohio, and joined the Navy in September 2003. According to Hawkins’ commendation medal citation, his direct leadership “contributed to the successful execution of requisitions and customer inquiries to enhance the readiness of the nuclear fleet and shipyards. His professionalism, personal initiative and loyal devotion to duty reflected great credit on him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States naval service.”

Blake is a Detroit native, graduated from Cody High School in Detroit, and graduated from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., with a bachelor’s degree in packaging and National University, San Diego, with a master’s degree in logistics management. Blake joined the Marine Corps in 1992 and is retiring after more than 25 years of service.

According to Blake’s meritorious service medal citation, he was pivotal in the operational effectiveness and combat readiness of the United States Naval Forces for his dedicated leadership and extraordinary vision. Blake was credited with developing and executing a tailored logistics solution, by leveraging existing Department of Defense supply chain capabilities, to meet rapidly changing and disparate operating environments of the Navy’s surface fleet.

A field activity of the Naval Supply Systems Command, NAVSUP WSS is the U.S. Navy’s supply chain manager providing worldwide support to the aviation, surface ship, and submarine communities. NAVSUP WSS provides Navy, Marine Corps, joint and allied forces with products and services that deliver combat capability through logistics. There are more than 2,000 civilian and military personnel employed at its two Pennsylvania sites, and one site in Norfolk, Va.
