Commandos from 8th Special Operations Kandak (Battalion) conducted complex, coordinated assaults resulting in the discovery of four ISIS-K homemade explosive labs in Mohmand Valley, Achin district, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, Jan. 3, 2018. Commandos pushed ISIS-K from their safe havens at the mouth of the valley during persistent offensive operations, that began on Dec. 22, 2017.
Afghan and Coalition airpower enabled the Commandos to maneuver into former ISIS-K safe havens, surprising the terrorists before they could depart with their weapons and equipment. The four labs contained 72 completed IEDS, 64 mines, and 25 kg of explosive material.
The Commandos continue to apply unrelenting military pressure as the special operators pursue ISIS-K throughout southeastern Nangarhar.
As ISIS-K attempts to remain relevant in the region, the Nangarhar provincial governor spokesman reported that the terrorists have resorted to using women and children as human shields.
