Staff Sgt. Dennis Carter joined the 167th Airlift Wing in February 2010. He has an associate’s degree in computer networking and works for the U.S. Coast Guard, providing IT support to the Kearneysville and Martinsburg, W.Va., USCG facilities.
As an integrated avionics systems mechanic, Carter is part of a maintenance team dedicated to aircraft readiness. Specifically, he maintains and troubleshoots the C-17’s guidance and control systems, some of the air¬craft’s most sophisticated systems. When the systems require testing, maintenance or repair, Carter gets to work.
“Dennis is a very bright Airman. He is a fast learner and he progressed quickly through his upgrade training. While on the job, he is never afraid to lend his thoughts on the troubleshooting process or what he thinks the issue may be. Dennis has also volun¬teered for numerous trips to help the Wing’s missions abroad,” said Master Sgt. Michael Zittle, the Wing’s guidance and control military supervisor.
Carter has aligned his military and civilian careers to match his hobbies.
“I really enjoy working with electronics; fixing, main¬taining, modifying, or just taking apart a new piece of tech to see if I can,” Carter said.
