The director of the Marine Corps University Staff Non-commissioned Officer Academy, Sgt. Maj. Robin Fortner, relinquished her responsibilities to Sgt. Maj. Dylan Goldman during a traditional Change of Director ceremony at Camp Gilbert H. Johnson aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Jan. 12, 2018.

Goldman says that there have been many changes to the professional military education curriculum and Fortner lead the way.

“Sgt. Maj. Fortner has taken this academy to new heights,” said Goldman. “(She) was at the forefront of implementing those changes and making sure that the Marine Corps is keeping up with the latest techniques, tactics and procedures that the Marine Corps is employing throughout the world.”

Fortner, who iwas the first female director of the SNCOA, says the SNCOA will continue to succeed in its mission.

“I know (Goldman) will take the reins and run with it,” said Fortner. “He has a great record and he’s well experienced. Above all else, he has passion for the Marines and for learning. That is just going to drive everything else.”

Goldman says the SNCOA provides a continuum of education for Marines and teaches them to think and solve problems in innovative ways.

“Critical thinking is the way of the future,” said Goldman. “That’s what allows us to operate independently when we have decision makers all the way down to the lance corporal level.”

Goldman is excited about his new position which will have a lasting impact on the Marines who attend the SNCOA.

“It’s an honor – that’s the best way to describe it,” said Goldman. “This is a billet where I will have the opportunity to work with some really fantastic Marines and have an opportunity to have an influence on them and the future of the Marine Corps …This is going to be the best tour of my Marine Corps career.”

After a successful tour as SNCOA director, Fortner offered the following words to Marines – Stay humble and stay hungry.

“Stay humble because that opens the door for the betterment of yourself,” said Fortner. “Stay hungry so you don’t get stagnant – constantly strive to get to the next level.”
