Marines at Fort McCoy for the 2nd Marine Air Wing’s Ullr Shield exercise completed cold-weather weapons familiarization with the M2 Browning .50-caliber machine gun on Jan. 16 on Range 2 at Fort McCoy, Wis.
Ullr Shield is a training exercise designed to improve 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing’s (MAW) capabilities in extreme cold-weather environments.
The 2nd MAW is headquartered at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.
Hundreds of Marines participated in the training at Fort McCoy.
The 2nd MAW began coordination to hold cold-weather training at Fort McCoy in September 2017 when Marines with the Marine Air Control Group 28, a 2nd MAW unit, came to Fort McCoy.
Fort McCoy has supported America’s armed forces since 1909. The post’s varied terrain, state-of-the-art ranges, new as well as renovated facilities, and extensive support infrastructure combine to provide military personnel with an environment in which to develop and sustain the skills necessary for mission success.
