LOUISVILLE, Tenn. -- Winter continues to make itself known to those in the South. A case in point is 154 U.S. Air Force Airman leadership school students who attended their retreat ceremony Jan. 17, on a snowy Tuesday afternoon at the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center in East Tennessee.
The campus on McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base received 1 to 2 inches of snow from Winter Storm Inga with temperatures then dropping down to single-digit lows. Temperatures this week reached highs in the 40s.
109 students in NCO academy joined them as well as TEC staff. An additional 49 Airmen in the ALS blended learning course will arrive soon for two weeks of Phase II in-resident classwork. The combined classes will graduate together during a ceremony in early February.
ALS prepares junior Airmen to serve as Air Force front-line supervisors. EPME students in ALS and NCO academy begin reveille and retreat with the Flag after some practice sessions. It’s a recurring Tuesday ceremony that includes the TEC Commander and the Commandant when classes are in session. Their formation also recites The Airman's Creed.
TEC's Chief Master Sergeant Paul H. Lankford Enlisted Professional Military Education Center is the Air Force’s largest such center, where thousands attend EPME annually.
