SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Recovery Field Office, held a change of command on Jan 31, 2018. Lt. Col. Roberto Solorzano assumed command of the RFO from Lt. Col. Andrew Yoder.
Lt. Col. Solorzano currently serves as the USACE Mobile District Central America Officer in Charge.
“We continue to operate in a challenging environment, but the Corps of Engineers will stay to finish the job, estamos aqui,” said Lt. Col. Solorzano. “Damages initially made the response challenging, but conditions and the pace of recovery continues improving, as we continue to work closely local, state, federal partners to help the people of Puerto Rico.”
Lt. Col. Solorzano was in Puerto Rico assisting with Hurricane Irma recovery efforts when Hurricane Maria make landfall on the island. He stayed and led the initial emergency response efforts for the Corps of Engineers. His ability to speak the island’s native language helped the advance party be successful in the days just after the storm.
Lt. Col. Yoder returns to his assignment as deputy commander of the USACE Mobile District.
The RFO manages the four mission assigned to USACE by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Debris, Temporary Roofing, Temporary Emergency Power, and Critical Public Facilities.
As of Feb 4, 2018:
• Debris Remove: 2,849,397 out of 3.9 million cubic yards tasked for removal in 55/78 municipals
• Temporary Roofing: 54,954 installed out of approximately 66,000 eligible
• Critical Public Facilities: 2 are pending construction award, 94 contracts for repair awarded, 21 facilities temporarily repaired.
• Temporary Emergency Power: 95% of generators requested are installed, with 753 active in the field
