USS Dallas (SSN-700) leadership visited Patrol Squadron (VP) 47 to tour a P-8A Poseidon at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) February 2nd.
“This was a great opportunity for our respective commands to collaborate and further familiarize the capabilities of each platform since they conjoin in many mission and operational objectives,” said Cmdr. Nathan Gammache, VP-47 Executive Officer.
USS Dallas (SSN-700) Commanding Officer Cmdr. David Kaiser and Dallas Executive Officer Lt. Cmdr. Todd Bowers toured a P-8A Poseidon for the first time during their visit. Gammache demonstrated the capabilities of the P-8a Poseidon and how the maritime patrol community operates its assets to explore the underwater domain to dominate the undersea battlespace.
“It was phenomenal to bring our guys out to see what can be done with the Navy’s leading aircraft technology within this platform,” said Kaiser at the conclusion of the tour.
The Swordsmen, led by Cmdr. James Imlah, Commander VP-47, are the latest squadron to transition to the P-8A Poseidon. They achieved “Safe for Flight” certification last year.
VP- 47 is a maritime patrol squadron currently stationed at NASWI. The Golden Swordsmen recently completed transition from the legacy P-3C Orion to the P-8A Poseidon, the Navy’s premiere long-range anti-submarine warfare platform.
