CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait — U.S. Army Central and Third Army’s Forward Command Post headquarters hosted the leaders of Central Command and its subordinate service commands, Feb. 9, 2018, as part of “Army Day,” an event to showcase the U.S. Army’s capabilities across the theater during a series of demonstrations at U.S. and local military facilities in Kuwait.
The commanders and senior enlisted advisors of U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) and its subordinate commands -- U.S. Army Central, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, U.S. Air Forces Central Command, and Marine Corps Forces Central Command, and Special Operations Central -- attended the event which featured a combined arms exercise, logistics on the sea and land, and dive operations.
The first major demonstration showcased Army logistics at Kuwait Naval Base, Kuwait, where the Army’s vessel Landing Craft Utility 2013, named the Churubusco, offloaded an M1 Abrams tank and a Bradley Fighting Vehicle. After the armored vehicles were loaded onto trucks, an Army diving detachment demonstrated how its personnel move from the water to shore during operations.
The USCENTCOM leadership then traveled by UH-60 Black Hawk, the Army’s primary utility helicopter, to Camp Buehring to view a combined arms maneuver featuring artillery, maneuvering tanks, unmanned aerial vehicles, infantry forces, and an aerial medical evacuation team.
“Today we were demonstrating our capabilities in the area,” said Pvt. 2nd Class Tristan Friedhoff, a radio-telephone operator, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.
Friedhoff said the demonstration for the senior leaders from other U.S. services took a lot of planning, coordination, and rehearsals.
“We’ve been setting up for the past four or five days, changing things here and there, critiquing everything,” he explained.
The Kuwaiti land forces and the U.S. Army also set up static displays of equipment showing everything from Kuwaiti M1 Abrams tanks to American high-mobility artillery rocket systems.
