SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich.--Local community members and civic leaders met with members of the 127th Wing Wednesday during a scoping meeting at the Wheeler Community Center in Clinton Township, Mich. to discuss F-35 basing at Selfridge.
The meeting, a component of the Air Force’s environmental impact study, provided a forum to collect public comments and concerns regarding the F-35 bed down proposal. Even though Selfridge was not one of the two bases selected as a preferred alternative to base the F-35, the base is still considered a reasonable alternative.
Following this and other meetings there will be an analysis of the potential impacts of the proposal. The complete analysis will be provided in the draft environmental impact study, which will be provided for public review and comment in late 2018.
Last December the Air Force announced that both the 115th Fighter Wing, Truax Field, Madison, Wis. and the 187th Fighter Wing, Dannelly Field, Montgomery, Ala. were selected as the two preferred alternative bases to receive the F-35 fighter mission around 2021.
Members of the public can continue to file comments, concerns, and any related questions regarding a potential F-35 mission at Selfridge by going to www.ANGF35EIS.com.
