BANGLADESH (Feb. 26, 2018) - The opening ceremony for Exercise Shanti Doot was held on Feb. 26, 2018, at the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT), Rajendrapur Cantonment, Bangladesh. Shanti Doot 4 is a multinational United Nations peacekeeping exercise with more than 1,000 participants from more than 30 countries designed to provide pre-deployment training to U.N. partner countries in preparation for real-world peacekeeping operations.
Shanti Doot 4 is the most recent in an ongoing group of exercises held in the Indo-Pacific region created to increase peacekeeping capabilities and capacities of the nations involved in the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) as well as to promote peace and security in the region.
“U.S. Pacific Command and the United States State Department Global Peace Operations Initiative are pleased, indeed honored, to partner with our friends in Bangladesh, in support of the training of multinational military forces to conduct real-world United Nations peacekeeping operations,” said U.S. Airforce Maj. Gen. James O. Eifert, Air National Guard assistant to Commander, U.S. Pacific Airforce. “Exercise Shanti Doot 4 is one way we continue to enrich the relationship while simultaneously strengthening multinational partnerships around the world”
Shanti Doot 4 will consist of multiple events for service members to participate in, including classroom sessions, staff training exercises, and field training exercises taught by subject matter experts from multiple nations, including the U.S., Canada, Australia, Bangladesh and many more. These exercises are designed to develop and strengthen global partnerships as well as to increase partner nation peacekeeping capabilities and capacities. Additionally, Shanti Doot 4 aims to increase the stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
The training will be run by instructors from multiple nations with extensive peacekeeping experience. The goal of these multinational exercises and training sessions is to allow for an exchange of knowledge, skills, and techniques between subject matter experts which will benefit all involved and improve future peacekeeping operations.
“I feel that the staging of a multinational exercise of this type on peacekeeping for the region is very timely, relevant and worthwhile,” said Maj. Gen. Tarique Ahmed Siddique (Ret.), Defense and Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. “I take this opportunity also to thank the participating countries and the observers who have come today to join this exercise to accrue better skill, share expertise, experiences, best practices, and learn from each other to work better for the cause of peace.”
