CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – Marine Corps Community Services hosted an open gate Food Truck Fair Feb. 25 aboard Camp Foster.

The local and U.S. communities came together outside Gunner’s Gym at the Food Truck Fair to enjoy food, music, and a fun land with children’s rides and bounce houses.

“Today’s event is about bringing the local and military communities together through love of food and music,” said Laura De Leon, a special events coordinator with MCCS.

The fair had 14 different local food trucks and two from Camp Foster. They offered a variety of food from noodles and kabobs to barbeque and burgers. A drink lounge and a coffee truck provided an alternative to beverages offered at other trucks.

“I’ve been off base and eaten from some of these trucks before, but it’s really nice for them all to come be on base for us to try,” said Cpl. Codey Puttkamer, a printer repairer with Headquarter and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installation Pacific - Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan. “Marines like to eat and having this type of variety available to try is great.”

The fair hosted six local bands that played live and a fun land with bounce houses and rides for children to enjoy.

“Allowing the local community come on base for events like this is a great way for them to build friendships with the U.S. community,” said De Leon. “Everyone is listening to the music, laughing and joking. I’ve seen a lot of people sharing food and enjoying themselves. This is what we want to achieve, togetherness and happiness.”
