Capt. Keith Michael is the 167th Medical Group Logistics Officer and the En-Route Patient Staging (ERPSS) Team Chief. He has served in the 167th Airlift Wing for 19 years. Prior to his service in the medical group, Michael was a health services manager for the 167th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.
The Capt. also works for the Department of Veterans Affairs as the Chief Software Engineer for the Electronic Health Record Modernization Program Executive Office where he is responsible for all software engineering, system integration and implementation efforts for the new electronic health record for the VA.
Capt. Michael has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Virginia University. He is also a certified Senior Level Program Manager from the Federal Acquisition Academy which allows him to manage federal programs with multi-million dollar annual budgets.
As the Medical Group Logistics Officer and ERPSS Team chief, Michael has a significant impact on the wing’s ability to respond medically to a homeland defense or natural disaster event.
“Part of my duties are to ensure the management and inventory of the 976 homeland response packages that assist in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) decontamination, patient triage, public health services and bio-medical engineering CBRNE detection, surveillance and response,” Michael said.
Michael is currently the Air National Guard’s lead planner for the East Central Georgia Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) event scheduled for this summer. Medical personnel from the Air National Guard, Air Force Reserves and the Navy Reserves will gain invaluable training while providing free medical care to an underserved area in Georgia. More than thirty personnel from the 167th AW will be participating.
Michael says his goals include providing the tools and materials needed to give the best care to injured service members and veterans and to do the best he can to improve the public perception of the VA and the support it provides to veterans.
He is proudest of his family.
“I travel a bunch with my civilian and military careers, typically two-plus weeks a month. My wife Jessica does a fantastic job of keeping our home in order and raising our three amazing kids when I am not around,” he said.
He is a huge Mountaineer’s fan and a sucker for any type of trivia game. He also said he can’t pass up “America Ninja Warrior” when flipping through channels on television.
