The 49th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center kicked off Holloman’s annual Military Saves Week with a car show at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., Feb. 26, 2018.
The purpose of MSW is to educate people on healthy financial management practices, to help them save more money, and build their wealth.
Throughout this six-day campaign, the 49th FSS A&FRC and its partners will provide free financial education seminars and workshops, such as a Thrift Saving’s Plan saver story seminar and an 18 Financial Success workshop, to military service members, retirees and their families.
These courses and others will address a variety of financial hot topics from debt management to investing. In addition, attendees will learn how to set short and long-term financial goals to plan for life’s expected and unexpected events.
“We often have member's seeking financial assistance because they were not taught how to save up for a rainy day,” said Maura Solis, 49th FFS A&FRC Air Force Aid Society officer. “Learning how to better manage one’s finances can prevent the stress that comes with not having a savings plan when emergencies arise.”
Financial wellness should be made a priority in every individual’s life, especially for those on the cusp of retirement.
“You have to plan for your future, as we all have to retire someday,” said Bruce Knee, 49th FSS A&FRC community readiness consultant and personal financial manager. “If you do not have a financial plan, it is going to be harder to make something of yourself, especially as you get older and stop working. However, if you learn how to manage your personal finances, you are going to be fine in life.”
On the whole, MSW is a great opportunity for anyone seeking to develop their financial readiness or simply improve their spending habits.
The event is coordinated by America Saves and the Consumer Federation of America in partnership with the Department of Defense.
