SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Ten Sailors assigned to the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Detachment Goodfellow Air Force Base volunteered at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, March 3.

Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen is an organization run by employees and volunteers that provides daily meals and other support services to San Angelo residents in need. CIWT Det. Goodfellow Sailors volunteer at the kitchen on the first Saturday of each month.

Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 1st Class Shauntell Sibley, a CIWT Detachment Goodfellow instructor, coordinated the event to allow service members the chance to not only integrate and work with each other, but also get an opportunity to give back to the greater San Angelo area.

“It’s a great opportunity for the staff members and students to get out and help the local community every month through the soup kitchen,” said Sibley. “It is an eye opening experience to work in the kitchen and interact with the people.”

On average, Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen serves approximately 150 people a day for lunch. It’s a place where members of the community, who have faced financial hardship, can go for a hot meal, grocery boxes, clothing and many other services.

“I was able to bring my children to this event and show them how Sailors help the community and pull together as a team,” said Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 1st Class Erin Kidd. “It was such a privilege to participate in this event and be able to provide a meal with comforting conversation to disadvantaged citizens while teaching my children how important it is to give to the community and the impact you have on others.”

The Center for Information Warfare Training delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
