Approximately 35 McChord Airmen returned home after a 90-day deployment at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, March 5.

For many squadrons on McChord Field, Airmen are continuously sent to deploy on an average rotation of 90 days with these Airmen being the first group to return home this year.

One of the squadrons to have Airmen come home was the 7th Airlift Squadron.

“We are extremely proud of what our Airmen accomplish,” said Master Sgt. Tranquilino Herrera, 7th AS first sergeant. “Flying missions in combat is something that is extremely difficult, takes extreme precision, and is very taxing on an individual's body and mind. This group of Airmen did a great job executing at a high level, as well as being great ambassadors not only representing the 7th Airlift Squadron, but the 62nd Airlift Wing.”

Family, friends and coworkers crowded the McChord Field Passenger Terminal to welcome home the returning Airmen with signs, posters and hugs.

“It feels really good to be home, I can’t wait to spend time with my friends,” said Senior Airman Justin Thompson, 4th AS loadmaster and one of the returning deployers. “This deployment was a lot fun and all the guys worked really hard, I’m proud of all of them. I want to say thank you to everyone who came out to welcome us home.”

Every Airmen who is sent down range has an important mission to accomplish and pilots and loadmasters from airlift squadrons are no exception.

“Our loadmasters and pilots directly contribute to the ongoing fight against terrorism,” Herrera said. “They accomplish this by delivering mission critical cargo and supplies within the area of responsibility. On a daily basis our Airmen conduct missions that support and fill the airlift requirements for combatant commanders, and this rapid delivery capability is essential to the continued success of U.S. combat operations abroad.”

Through the constant rotation of McChord Airmen going down range, the 62nd Airlift Wing continues to bring the fight to the enemy.
