MCSCG’s primary mission is to teach security cooperation basic engagement skills in support of regional Marine component command objectives and in coordination with operating forces and Marine Air-Ground Task Forces.
“[MCSCG] is important in the ever-growing change in environment that we work in as Marines,” said Gunnery Sgt. Dylan Alaia, the training liaison for MCSCG. “We’ve learned from past mistakes that security cooperation and engaging with our foreign partners is the best way to utilize our assets, money, and manpower and help the world.”
Throughout the instruction, the Marines broke off into groups and discussed the application of negotiation tactics and procedures in situations in which they would be most appropriate.
“We’re just working together and learning how to use negotiation styles with our foreign counterparts,” said Cpl. Robert Pugaczewski, an infantry rifleman with 2nd Bn., 3d Marines. “It’s important especially considering Iraq and Afghanistan and how we can learn from their mistakes.”
At the end of the three day training, the Marines tested their newly-honed skills through a practical application exam.
“I know that they’ll be better prepared to engage with our foreign partners and help make them a stronger force,” said Alaia. “This in turn helps make us a stronger force.”
