    LAKE CHARLES, La. – "Thank you for the honor of being your commander," Lt. Col. Gregory C. Parker, of Winterhaven, Fla., said as he relinquished command of the Louisiana National Guard's 62nd Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction) to Capt. Cameron L. Magee, Nov. 2.

    Parker relinquished command of the 62nd to Magee after more than two years of leading the unit. Land Component Commander, Brig. Gen. Thomas E. Beron praised Parker and Magee commenting, "Lt. Col. Parker has brought a wealth of knowledge to this organization and Capt. Magee brings experience and dedication." He went on to compliment the Soldiers of the 62nd, calling them "a great organization with great Soldiers."

    Magee, a resident of takes command of the 62nd after serving with 61st Troop Command as the assistant operations officer. He thanked adjutant general of the Louisiana Army National Guard, Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau for the opportunity.

    "We have a big job ahead of us and I look forward to working at your side," Magee told the Soldiers and Airmen in attendance.

    The 62nd also implemented a new shoulder sleeve insignia during the ceremony. The unit's patch changed from the state patch of the Louisiana National Guard to a patch that is now utilized by all National Guard Civil Support Teams nationwide.

    The 62nd Civil Support Team's mission is to augment local and regional terrorism response capabilities in events known or suspected to involve weapons of mass destruction. The unit assists state authorities with numerous events from the Superbowl in New Orleans to fairs in small towns across the state.
