Afghan Special Security Forces seized and destroyed 18 homemade IEDs and 46 pressure plate initiating devices during an offensive operation in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, Afghanistan, Mar. 31, 2018. This operation marked Afghan SOF’s third significant counter-IED action in the last 10 days in southern Afghanistan.
Commandos of the 7th Special Operations Kandak seized six IEDs, 45 lbs. of explosives, and multiple mortar rounds from a Taliban compound in Marjah district, Helmand province, Mar. 27, 2018. On Mar. 21, 7th SOK Commandos detained three Taliban in possession of 300 lbs. pounds of explosives, six anti-personnel mines, five pressure plate IEDs, and two vehicles rigged for high-profile attacks during a nighttime raid in Karez Sayedi, Nad Ali district, Helmand province.
Specialized in the execution of nighttime raids, the ASSF conduct persistent offensive operations targeting Taliban fighters and their weapons of indiscriminate violence. Over the winter months, Taliban leadership directed the movement of narcotics and explosives to more populated areas in an effort to escape targeting by the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces. The Taliban leadership’s decisions directly reflect their desire to raise revenue and far outweighs their concern for the Afghan people.
