More than 2400 people attended the 50th Force Support Squadron’s annual Spring Fling event at the fitness center at Schriever Air Force Base Colorado, March 24.

Airmen and their families enjoyed bounce houses, face painting, a petting zoo (featuring sheep and horses), a special visit from Hairy the Bunny and other activities during the free event.

“This event gave Airmen a chance to come together and have fun,” said Jennifer Stark, marketing director from the 50th Force Support Squadron, and one of the event organizers. “This is the biggest spring fling we’ve had yet.”

Stark shared this year’s event featured more sponsors and activities than ever before, more bounce houses for children and the addition of caricaturists, a big hit from last year’s holiday fest.

Attendees shared their favorite parts of the event.

“I liked the easter bunny,” said Madison Parrott, 5, who attended the event with her mother, Kasey Parrott and brother Benjamin.

“The pony rides were a big hit with the kids as well,” Kasey added.

Kelli Plemons, a Schriever spouse, her third time attending the event, said it was exciting for her daughter, Ireland, and there was a definite improvement this year.

“The decorations were well done and the organization was really good,” she said. “My favorite part was having an area in the indoor running tack with bounce houses for kids to run around and play, the face painting and the caricatures.”

Stark said the plethora of activities, coupled with the day’s fair weather, brought a proper start to the spring season.

“The weather was gorgeous, which made it great to host things outside,” Stark said. “Normally, we plan for inclement weather but this was not the case.”

Megan Bryan, a Schriever spouse who attended the event with her two children, Vaughn and Emma, agreed, saying these events helps strengthen the community bonds.

“Activities like this are important for community building and making people feel tied to the base,” she said. “It’s really great to see people going to events like this. We always enjoy it.”

The Spring Fling is one of many ways 50th FSS furthers the 50th Space Wing’s priority of taking care of our Airmen and their families always.

The 50th FSS hosts four large-scale events each year - Spring Fling, the Summer Slam Base Picnic, the FSS Customer Appreciation Event and the Children’s Holiday Festival.

Stark expressed she enjoys putting on events such as the Spring Fling to give the base community a break and show appreciation for their mission accomplishment.

“These events are a way to give back and recognize the work Airmen do day-in and day-out,” she said. “We are more than willing to go the extra mile to give our hardworking Schriever Airmen the best there is.”

The 50th FSS is always looking for volunteers to help out during these events. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Stark at 567-4740.
