One hundred five service members participated in the German Schützenschnur marksmanship qualification at Camp Morehead, near Kabul, Afghanistan, Mar. 30, 2018. Summit Soldiers of 1-87th IN, 10th MTN DIV were among the candidates vying for the German qualification. Seventy of the participants earned the Schützenschnur to include 29 gold, 21 silver, and 20 bronze-level decorations.
“Today’s Schützenschnur qualification was a great opportunity for service members representing the NATO community to meet one another and have some fun, while pursuing an award that will forever bind them” said German National Army Maj. Aleksandr Hagerdorn, the event’s lead planner.
“Although some Soldiers did not qualify, their marksmanship improved significantly after coaching, mentoring, and teaching the fundamentals of both pistol and rifle marksmanship,” said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Stephen J. Leonard, HHC, 1-87th IN, 10th MTN DIV.
