The Washington National Guard enterprise contracting team received the 2017 National Guard Guardian of Excellence Contracting Award for their outstanding performance and innovation.
Army and Air contracting professionals in the Washington National Guard work together seamlessly in the development of new joint processes and tools to enhance standardization and improve quality and compliance. Some of the major projects the NGWA team worked on during this period include an $800,000 remodel of Building #855, a $400,000 contract for the Paine field demolition and land clean up as well as many smaller projects. SMSgt Robert Burke from the contracting office said, “one of the things we were recognized for is best practices because our standardized forms allow interoperability between the army and air force. This means that the air force can take care of army customers and vice versa, allowing the contract office to take better care of our customers.”
As a result the NGWA is among the national leaders in several categories to include: contract action report compliance, paperless contract file completion and contract competition rate. Additionally, the NGWA small business program exceeded National Guard Bureau small business objectives in all five categories. The NGWA Contracting Team sets the standard for total force integration and exemplifies the Guardian of Contract Excellence Award. Receiving such a prestigious national award is a great source of pride for not only the contracting team, but the entire Washington National Guard.
