The South Carolina Army National Guard's Bravo Company, 151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 228th Signal Brigade, held a deployment ceremony April 7, 2018 at Ware Shoals High School in Ware Shoals, South Carolina.
The approximately 150 signal Soldiers are mobilizing to train in Texas before deploying to support U.S. Army Europe. They are scheduled to be deployed approximately one year and will provide communications assets for military units in Europe.
"We are looking forward to working with active component and reserve component units in providing signal support for Operation Atlantic Resolve," said U.S. Army Cpt. Daniel Taylor, commander, B-Company, 151 Expeditionary Signal Battalion. "We will be providing both tactical and strategic communications assets."
Taylor said the Soldiers' commitment to readiness for the mobilization was outstanding, as they met their pre-deployment training requirements in far less than time than traditionally allocated for a deploying unit.
"Our Signal Soldiers rigorously prepared and stepped up to fulfill this mission request," said U.S. Army Maj. Robert Vaughn, commander, 151 Expeditionary Signal Battalion.
Also in attendance for the send-off was U.S. Senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, who spoke of the historic significance of units supporting in Europe again. He reflected on his time serving in the U.S. Air Force in the 1980s under President Ronald Reagan and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
"If you had told me in 1988 that in 2018 I would be at a ceremony sending American Soldiers to Poland, I would not have believed it," said Graham. "You are going because the Polish people have suffered under communism and they don't want to go back to that. We must stand with our NATO allies."
While in Europe, the signal unit will provide such communications capabilities as internet, phones, and networks. They will be supporting the 2nd Theater Signal Brigade.
"We are very happy with all we've accomplished to get to this point and are looking forward to this mission," said Taylor. "We are ready to deploy."
