FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa.—Sgt. Marteka Hayes was selected as the 213th Regional Support Group’s NCO of the Year and represented the 213th at the NCO of the year board.
Hayes is a resident of Philadelphia and serves as an automated logistical specialist with the 252nd Quartermaster Company, 728th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Automated logistical specialists are primarily responsible for supervising and performing management or warehouse functions in order to maintain equipment records and parts.
In her civilian life, Hayes works full time for the National Guard Bureau as a portfolio manager, and she credits the Pennsylvania National Guard with the opportunities to obtain the position at NGB.
“A lot of preparation went into preparing for the board. I spent a lot of time studying, and a lot of time exercising to prepare for the state competition,” said Hayes.
Although the task of going before a board of high-ranking Soldiers is intimidating Hayes said that the experience was overall positive, and would recommend that Soldiers take on the challenge.
“The more you know the better off you will be,” said Hayes, “It was very challenging but worth the effort.”
