WIESBADEN, Germany -- Units assigned to the 2nd Theater Signal Brigade recently swept the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command’s 2017 Network Enterprise Center of the Year competition, winning first place in all three categories.
The 102nd Strategic Signal Battalion in Wiesbaden won first place in the large category; the 509th Strategic Signal Battalion in Vicenza, Italy won first place in the medium category; and the 39th Strategic Signal Battalion in Chievres, Belgium won first place in the small category.
The competition recognizes the highest standards for customer service and communications excellence across the NETCOM’s 132 NECs. Each NEC is evaluated for responsiveness in supporting enterprise establishment efforts, supported enterprise solutions, innovative demonstrated in solutions to resource shortfalls and other specified criteria.
This year marks the sixth consecutive first-place award for the 102nd Strategic Signal Bn., and the second consecutive first-place award for the 509th Strategic Signal Bn.
Speaking at the 102nd Strategic Signal Bn. award presentation April 11 in Wiesbaden, Maj. Gen. John Baker, commander of NETCOM, said the competition for NEC of the Year is very competitive.
“The fact that you have consistently demonstrated this level of performance is outstanding, and I thank you for it,” he said.
Baker said the exercise support and real-world work performed by the 2nd Theater Signal Brigade, including support for Regionally Allocated Forces, informs how NETCOM plans for other contingencies around the world.
“We use the success here in Europe to explain how we are going to be able to enable success for other units in the Army, and that’s a big deal,” Baker said.
Col. Jeff Worthington, commander of 2nd Theater Signal Bde., said the brigade’s integrated workforce of Soldiers, Civilians, contractors and local national employees exemplifies the unit’s vision of “one team of innovative professionals enabling mission command with integrity and balance,” and speaks to the culture of professionalism and excellence across the brigade.
“We have a committed workforce that is willing to go the extra mile and understands the criticality of us being here (in Europe), and that’s shown by the level of service they provide,” Worthington said.
