    124th Fighter Wing

The 124th Fighter Wing has been selected to receive the 2016 Meritorious Unit Award, according to an announcement sent to all wing members April 6, 2018, at Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho.

The MUA is presented to Air Force active duty, reserve and guard units for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding achievement or service in direct support of combat operations.

“Words alone cannot express my admiration for you all, and for what you have accomplished over the last few years,” said Col. Tim Donnellan, commander of the 124th Fighter Wing. “There can be no greater recognition for a combat organization than that given for exceptional performance in direct combat with the enemy for both engaged and supporting warriors.”

The award encompasses the accomplishments of the wing from Oct. 1, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2016. During this period of time, the wing prepared and deployed more than 500 Airmen in support of various contingency operations around the world. It was the largest deployment in the wing’s history.

The citation reads, “While deployed the Airmen of the 124th Fighter Wing flawlessly executed more than 1,700 combat sorties providing two of the largest strikes on the enemy’s oil production and transportation resulting in a 50 percent revenue loss. They also led the Qayyarah-West airstrip repair, an estimated 180-day project, which our members were able to complete in only three weeks. Their recovery of this airstrip was key to support the Mosul Offensive. While 50 percent of the wing was deployed, members serving at home provided continuity through flawless execution of financial resources, domestic operations, and trained coalition soldiers through six major joint exercises.”

Donnellan said, “It takes all of us to make it happen every day and whether you have deployed or supported those who have, you have earned this recognition.”

Airmen are authorized to receive and wear this award if they were assigned to the wing Oct. 1, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2016. Any questions can be directed to Airmen’s respective command support staff.
