EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (March 16, 2018) - Members of the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) toured Nunez Community College in the town of Chalmette, in St. Bernard Parish, La. for a lecture on the Battle of New Orleans as part of the Groups’ staff ride.
The staff ride was aimed at building camaraderie and unit cohesion in anticipation of any operational requirement, as well as analyze lessons learned from a historical battle. The tour garnered over 50 participants, allowing 7th Group members to discuss the Battle of New Orleans, visit the historic battlefield, and then lunch at a local restaurant.
Rod Chapman, a military historian with Nunez Community College and liaison to 7th SFG(A) was the event coordinator and guide during the visit.
“These men and women dedicate their lives to America’s causes. So, we’re proud to host [7th Special Forces Group (Airborne)] and I feel honored to be among them for even just a brief moment,” said Chapman. “They make you proud to be an American.”
The 7th SFG(A), based out of Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. plans, prepares for, and when ordered, executes Special Operations missions in support of directed Theater Security Cooperation Plans and Overseas Contingency Operations.
