BAGHDAD - The Joint Military Mail Terminal/ Army Post Office Sort team consists of two contracting officer representatives, or CORs, and seven Technical Inspectors, or TIs. The mission of the CORs is to ensure mail processing in APO Sort is done in accordance with the statement of work, or SOW, and conduct weekly and monthly process audits. Technical Inspectors perform unit mail room, or UMR, inspections for Victory Base Complex.

CORs actively interact with Kellog, Brown and Root supervisors, observations are documented and reports provide a vital assessment on the performance and directive compliance of contractor's postal contract. On top of the audits, CORs are also in charge of the proper disposition and accounting of absentee voting ballots. A total of 22,723 ballots were processed and reported in the JMMT. Staff Sgt. Sophia Dobbins', 510th Human Resources Company, Sustainment Brigade Troops Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade contracting officer representative and a native of Branson, Mo., stringent checks ensured all ballots were properly endorsed and dispatched.

Not to be outmatched, the TI's achievement's is non- the-less commendable, the team ramped- up the number of mail rooms inspected to 6 per day minimum. The goal is to complete all mail rooms by the end of November prior to the new Air Force postal team's arrival. So far 510th TI team led by Sgt. Michael Shafto, 510th HRC Technical Inspector and a Bayfield, Wis. native, completed 69 inspections out of 80 mailrooms.

Another major aspect of TI work is conducting unit mail clerk, or UMC, class. The venue for the class was moved back to the JMMT training room to accommodate a larger class size in anticipation of projected incoming units to Victory Base Complex. To date, the TIs have certified 1,100 Soldiers as mail clerks.
