FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa.—An employer of Pennsylvania National Guard members is one of thirty finalists for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest honor the Department of Defense gives to employers who support employees in the National Guard and Reserves.
Greencastle Associates Consulting Company of Frazer, Pennsylvania was nominated by Pennsylvania Army Guard member, Maj. Troy Beane, assigned to 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division. In his civilian capacity Beane is employed as a senior management consultant.
“For the first time ever Pennsylvania actually has two employers nominated for this award,” said retired Maj. Gen. Wesley Craig, Pennsylvania’s state ESGR chairman, and former Adjutant General of Pennsylvania. “Both Greencastle Associates Consulting Company as well as Slippery Rock University are finalists for this prestigious award. This is incredible as only fifteen employers are selected from the finalists, and in fact more than 2,000 employers were submitted.”
Greencastle Associates Consulting Company is a veteran-owned and operated management consulting company. It specializes in project management, process improvement, and change management. They employ thirty people, who all served in the military or are current members of the Guard and Reserve. They fully support and value the military service of their employees and seek veterans and members of the Guard and Reserve for employees. The senior partners of Greencastle are Joe Crandall, a former Navy Seal, and Celwyn Evans, a former Army Ranger and member of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
They support Guard and Reserve members in a number of ways including: senior partners and spouses regularly contacting employees who are mobilized overseas, providing families with their private cell phone numbers with instructions to call if there is any home emergency and they need help, holding send-off and welcome home receptions upon deployment and redeployment, sending "care packages" full of goodies deployed troops and hosting an employee recognition page on their website where the military news of their employees is posted.
“I’m confident that Pennsylvania employers have a real-shot at this year’s event,” said Craig. “Whatever happens I’m proud that we are able to put forward such outstanding employers.
The results of the contest will be released at the end of May with an awards ceremony in August in Washington, D.C.
The award program is sponsored by the ESGR . ESGR is a Department of Defense program established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment. ESGR is supported by a network of more than 3,750 volunteers in 54 committees located across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam-CNMI (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
