Story by Master Sgt. April Wickes

    U.S. Strategic Command

U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Rebecca Hammock, reserve directorate commander’s support staff member, hails from Chicago, Ill, and has served in the military for four years.

Q: How does your job support U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and our missions?

A: I provide direct general officer and flag officer support, making sure they have everything they need for travel and training.

Q: What do you find most rewarding about your work at USSTRATCOM?

A: Watching the news and knowing I play a major part of what happens behind the scenes.

Q: What has been a challenge for you regarding your work at USSTRATCOM and how have you overcome that challenge?

A: I’m never doing the same thing day in and day out, but I’m always being pushed to grow and develop as a person and Airman.

Q: What has been your most memorable experience in the military?

A: Coordinating the Chief Master Sgt. Erika Kelly, command chief for Air Force Reserve Command, visit and being there to see all the planning unfold and executed. It was rewarding seeing the work I’ve done and my leadership acknowledging and applauding my efforts.

Q: What is the one piece of information or advice about working at USSTRATCOM that you'd pass on to new members of the USSTRATCOM team?

A: Ask as many questions as it takes for you to fully understand. When I first started out here, I knew next to nothing, but I continue to network, ask questions, and learn. USSTRATCOM is a revolving door and subject matter experts (SME) may not always be available, the more knowledge you absorb from them the better so you can now become a SME.
