Sgt. David J. Butler is a Tavares, Florida, native and Reserve Marine with 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve, participating in exercise African Lion 2018 in Morocco, April 17-27. Not only does he have his Marine Corps duties to be responsible for, but he’s also pursuing a college degree.
“Having so many responsibilities is almost second nature to me because of the Marine Corps,” Butler said. “We are always tasked with what seems like too much to handle to some people but then we accomplish it all, and that’s the mentality I’ve had at my civilian jobs.”
Butler not only has his civilian job and annual training events, but is also preparing for an overseas deployment. He plans to still pursue college during his deployment and hopes his experience will shape him to not only a better Marine but also a better member of his community.
“I will be deploying in the next couple of months or so and have been really looking forward to it,” Butler said. “My past deployments have not only been life changing but I have always come back new and improved. The experiences have shaped me into who I am today both as a civilian and as a Marine.”
