CAMP MURRAY, Wash. – Staff Sgt. Morgan Dana, command support staff for the Washington Air National Guard’s 143rd Cyberspace Operations Squadrons Commander, makes the journey all the way from Clarksville, Tennessee to attend drill in Washington.
Originally from Rome, New York, Dana spent three years on active duty with the Air Force, before getting out to spend more time with her husband, who is a signal support specialist with the Army.
Dana came to Washington State after leaving active duty because her husband was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord at the time. “I still wanted to serve so I joined the Washington Air National Guard and loved it,” said Dana.
When her husband was moved to the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, Dana’s command sat her down and offered her a solution so she could stay with the unit by drilling quarterly. Dana jumped on the opportunity. “I love Washington State,” said Dana. “I love where I work and I love the people I work with.”
The trip to and from Camp Murray takes Dana around eight to nine hours each way. She has a special arrangement with the unit to attend drill quarterly because of the long travel times.
In her free time, Dana enjoys working out and hanging out with her dogs, a Pomeranian named Penelope and an American Bulldog named Meatball. Although she loves Washington State, she still loves New York style pizza. “New York pizza is the best pizza in the world!” Dana said.
