The Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations have announced that Navy Supply Corps Rear Adm. Kevin M. Jones will be the next commander of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution.
Jones is currently serving as commander, Office of Special Projects, Washington, District of Columbia.
Jones is a native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and a 1990 graduate from Norwich University, Military College of Vermont where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and received his commission through Naval ROTC. Following commissioning, he completed Supply Officer training at the Naval Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College earning a Master of Arts in Foreign Affairs and a master’s degree in business administration. He also attended the Columbia University Graduate School of Business Executive Education Program.
His afloat and command tours include commanding officer, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP), Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella; commanding officer, Naval Special Warfare Group 1, Logistics Support Unit; Supply Officer Department head, USS Jarrett (FFG-33); and material division officer and aviation support division officer, USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63).
His shore tours include duty as assistant commander, Supply Operations and Logistics Policy (N3/N4), Navy Supply Systems Command; chief of staff, NAVSUP Headquarters in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Assistant chief of staff for logistics, engineering, maintenance and combat systems (N4) for Commander, Naval Special Warfare Command; joint logistic planner, Headquarters United States Central Command, J4 Directorate; director of logistics on the staff of Commander Marine Corps Bases Western Area, G4 Directorate; and contracting officer, Naval Air Systems Command where he supported the F/A-18 Super Hornet program. He was stationed in Kuwait attached to the U.S. Embassy working with the Kuwait Air Force as an advisor to the Kuwait Air Forces chief of logistics.
A member of the Acquisition Professional Community, Jones has earned supply warfare qualifications in aviation, surface warfare and expeditionary.
Personal awards include three Legions of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and various unit awards and citations.
The DLA Distribution Change of Command is scheduled for June 12.
