The City of Newport News partnered with The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce to host the Fort Eustis 100th Anniversary Gala at the Newport News Marriott at City Center, April 28, 2018.

U.S. Army service members, family members and local officials gathered to celebrate the installation’s service to the nation throughout its rich history.

Originally named Camp Abraham Eustis, after Brevet Brigadier General Abraham Eustis, Fort Eustis is home to the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Joint Task Civil Support, numerous support units, aviation training, and aviation research and development.

Keynote speaker, U.S. Army General Stephen J. Townsend, TRADOC commanding general, spoke of the integral roles Fort Eustis has played in support of America’s missions as well as the support received from the local community.

“Tonight is much more than a celebration of the past,” said Townsend. “It’s also a recognition of the great relationship that has developed over the years between Fort Eustis and this community. A true partnership that will ensure that Fort Eustis will continue to serve the needs of our nation for another 100 years.”

The event welcomed music medley performances by the 392nd Army Band Jazz Combo while gala attendees continued the celebration with a cake cutting ceremony and a video presentation highlighting Fort Eustis’ growth and contributions to the nation and to its community.

“This was a fantastic celebration and a chance to gather with our community to thank one another,” said U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Eric J. Vidal, 733rd Mission Support Group command sergeant major. “We got to show what [Fort Eustis] is all about and how important it is for us to remain engaged with all of the surrounding communities and help each other grow.”

Today, the alignment of Fort Eustis and Langley Air Force Base as Joint Base Langley-Eustis continues to build upon both installations’ history of service and support with the local community.
