MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - The annual Desert Knights gala took place at Quarters One aboard the Combat Center, May 5, 2018. The event was hosted to pay tribute to installation and local law enforcement and legal entities.
“We’re very happy to have the opportunity to thank our law enforcement,” said Vicki Mullen, wife of Maj. Gen. William F. Mullen III, Combat Center Commanding General. “We’ve decided to have a Hawaiian luau to show appreciation for the tremendous efforts our law enforcement makes.”
Among the guests were U.S. Representative Paul Cook, representative for California’s 8th congressional district and a retired Marine Corps colonel, Maj. Corey Holiday, Combat Center Provost Marshal, and Capt. Trevis Newport, station commander, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
“It’s an honor to be here and to be honored in such a way at this gala,” said Newport. “It's a great opportunity to meet with military personnel, especially those who are in the law enforcement field, and it’s very beneficial to be able to have a relationship where we can exchange information and be able to cooperate to ensure the safety and security of the residents in the local area.”
Holiday also spoke highly of the event. “This event is just a great way to bring together our legal entities aboard the base and get them interacting with our counterparts off the installation. It’s not very often that we’re all in the same place at the same time, so it’s great to take time to get to know one another better and discuss how we can provide a better place for our service members to work and train, and those who support them such as family, and local community members also have a great place to live.”
