CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo — International Soldiers from 14 European countries came together to compete for the title of International Soldier of the Quarter and Multinational Battle Group - East (MNBG-E) Soldier of the Quarter on May 14 at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.
Each Soldier was tested physically, technically and tactically throughout the competition, which included an unknown-distance run, an unknown-distance road march, a 9-millimeter pistol range, an Engagement Skills Trainer II virtual machine-gun ambush lane and an appearance board.
Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew McKindley, with the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, California National Guard, addressed the competitors at an awards ceremony after the competition.
“This event really messes with your mind a little bit; when you’re doing something that you don’t know, that you don’t normally do, it takes you out of your comfort zone,” said McKindley, the MNBG-E senior enlisted advisor. “You all proved yourselves great soldiers. You performed superbly. I’m proud of every single one of you and I know that your leadership is proud of you guys as well.”
Brig. Gen. Janos Csombok, deputy commander for Kosovo Force, awarded each competitor a certificate of appreciation for their participation.
Kamrat Krzysztof, a Soldier with the Polish contingent, earned the title of MNBG-E International Soldier of the Quarter and was the competition's overall winner.
“What I can promise you is that I will make sure someone organizes the next competition,” said Csombok. “I think it is just great, we have to continue with the competition.”
