BATON ROUGE, La. – Second-graders from Zachary Elementary School in Zachary, La., toured the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in Baton Rouge, La., and met Louisiana First Lady Supriya Jindal, Dec. 4. The students were invited to visit the facility after sending dozens of letters and cards to Governor Bobby Jindal applauding his leadership during Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
The tour included a look at the National Guard Tactical Command Center, the Mobile Command Unit and State Police, and Louisiana National Guard emergency vehicles. GOHSEP officials said the visit was intended to raise the children's awareness about how the office operates during state emergencies.
