ROSE BARRACKS, Germany—Soldiers require robust medical care to aintain peak performance. That is why proper medical care is a top priority for U.S. Army Europe and the 2d Cavalry Regiment. In maintaining medical readiness, 2CR relies heavily on the Regimental Medical Supply Office, which is responsible for maintaining all expendable and non-expendable medical supplies, controlled substances and medical maintenance for the entire brigade-sized element. Together, the section ensures commanders and medical professionals at all levels of healthcare always have critical items on hand.

The RMSO maintains one of the largest, full-service, medical warehouses within the USAREUR footprint. Inside the Regimental warehouse, the RMSO stores Class VIII medical supplies, pharmaceuticals and medical maintenance supplies, which are housed directly adjacent to distribution points for immediate pick-up.

Pick-up points are individually arranged by squadron, allowing for highly efficient distribution. Additionally, the Regimental warehouse includes an administrative center and office, as well as a medical maintenance bay for the service and repair of key medical equipment. All features of the warehouse are designed to streamline the process from supplier to end-user.

The RMSO operates two Department of Defense Medical Communications for Combat Casualty Care laptops which run a medical logistics application that allows users to electronically draft, submit and process supply orders. These systems extend the RMSO’s operational reach, allowing orders to be shipped directly to the Battle Group Poland currently led by 1st Squadron, 2CR in support of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence initiative.

1st Lt. Cristina Garcia, a medical supply officer, RSS, 2CR, is in charge of supervising all medical logistics for the Regiment. Sgt. Jenna Thompson, the RMSO’s non-commissioned officer-in-charge, RSS, 2CR, executes all of the Class VIII supply requests and ensures proper hand-over from the main facility to the respective squadrons.

“On any given week we receive supply requests from our seven squadrons and we make an attempt to fill them as soon as possible, whether from our authorized stock list at the warehouse or by order from United States Army Medical Material Center Europe,” Thompson said.

Thompson also works alongside her counterparts in the Regimental Surgeon Cell and support operations Medical Logistics to create Mission Configured Loads, known as push packages, which include a variety of preconfigured medical supplies created to handle specific medical and deployment needs, such as trauma, walking blood banks, mass casualty situations and narcotics.

With numerous upcoming operational exercises, like Saber Strike 18, the RMSO will continue to ensure that 2CR is always ready for all medical needs.
