JOINT TRAINING CENTER, Jordan — Danika Portz visited Soldiers and Marines for Armed Forces Entertainment concerts on April 29 and May 5, 2018. The visit to the Middle East marked the sixth tour that she has made during her career as a performer.
Her first show, for service members training in Jordan, was delayed by a sandstorm, the first for everyone in the band, said Portz. The second show, at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, started without incident with service members there gathering ahead of time for her sound check.
Portz said during her shows that she and the band have a lot of respect for those in the military, and her two brothers are currently serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Part of the show involved inviting service members onto the stage to perform with her and the band. In Jordan, one Soldier, 1st Lt. Greg Bloom, Company fire support officer with the 184th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Spartan, even got asked to perform 10 pushups to the cheers of the crowd.
The band performed for more than an hour a mix of Portz written songs and other popular hits. Afterward, during a meet-and-greet, Portz handed out CDs and autographs for any service member that wanted one.
