FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – Spc. Anna Churco serves as a public affairs specialist with the 109th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Public affairs specialists tell the Army’s story to the American people through news releases, web-based material and photographs for use in the military and civilian news and social media.
Last October, Churco volunteered to assist with military relief efforts after two severe hurricanes devastated islands in the Caribbean Sea.
“I got to go to the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Irma with the 108th Area Support Medical Group,” she said. “I think that was probably my best experience, yet. Every day was different. Every day I would go out and I didn’t know what I was going to see or what I was going to take pictures of.”
In civilian life, Churco will be majoring in nursing at Louisiana State University in the fall.
“After I finish my nursing degree, I would like to attend school to become a neo-natal Nurse Practitioner,” she said.
When she graduates as a nurse practitioner, she plans to commission as a medical officer in the Guard. Churco is transferring to the 241st Mobile Public Affairs Detachment in New Orleans, Louisiana for the remainder of her current enlistment.
Churco said her experience in the Pennsylvania National Guard has been an excellent opportunity to grow professionally and personally.
