Story by 1st Lt. Ellen Brabo

    2d Cavalry Regiment

The 2d Cavalry Regiment will depart in roughly 40 convoys from Rose Barracks, Germany and conduct a tactical road march through the eastern portion of Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Latvia from May 28 to June 23, 2018.

This movement will consist of more than 1,000 Strykers and other military vehicles in support of Saber Strike 18, a U.S. Army Europe multinational training exercise being held in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.

Local residents should be aware of increased traffic along routes as the regiment conducts these movements. U.S. military convoys will do everything possible to avoid disruption of traffic and follow all national traffic laws. The safety of local residents and our Soldiers is always a focus in our movements.

The Saber Strike 18 tactical road march will initially have two routes. One route will travel through the Czech Republic on major roads and highways from May 28-30. They will conduct an engagement in Prague, May 30. From there they will travel to the Polish border and on to Powidz from May 30 – June 4.

The second route will travel through the town of Oberlausitz, Germany en route to the Polish border from May 29 – June 1. They will also use major roads and highways as they travel to Powidz from May 29 – June 3.

Upon departure from Powidz, both groups will travel through the town of Olecko, Poland en route to the Lithuanian border.

The convoys are scheduled to cross the Polish/Lithuanian border from June 5-9. Most of our unit will participate in exercise activities in Lithuania. We will have much smaller movements that will continue to Latvia from June 9-15.

Upon completion of the exercise we will use the same routes as we return to our home station in Vilseck, Germany. The movements are expected to be from June 16-23.

The 2d Cavalry Regiment’s participation in Saber Strike 18 is designed to enhance readiness and interoperability with our allies and regional partners. This year’s exercise will integrate the Battle Group Poland, established in support of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence initiative and currently commanded by Lt. Col. Adam Lackey, commander, 1st Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment. Roughly 3,000 2d Cavalry Regiment Soldiers will participate in this year’s exercise.

Please be advised that media engagements during movements will not be available until after the completion of the exercise. Interested Media are asked to contact the Regimental Public Affairs Officer Captain Judith Marlowe at (+49172 854 6492) or judith.a.marlowe.mil@mail.mil.
