The U.S Army’s newest addition to its Stryker fleet, the 30mm Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle - Dragoon, was introduced by Palehorse Troop, 4th Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment during a combat capabilities display in Stara Boleslav, Czechia, May 30, 2018. The Soldiers setup two Stryker ICV-Ds and several fact boards for a presentation to the media as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Czechia, Stephen King.
Senior leaders of the Czech army were also present in order to gain a better understanding of the new weapons system. This event also provided them the opportunity to highlight a vehicle with similar capabilities. The Pandur 2 and the Stryker ICV-D are both equipped with a 30mm main gun system. This similarity in weapons design gives NATO an edge in interoperability.
“These events help to show the world our joint capabilities,” said 1st Lt. Christian Butrago, platoon leader, Palehorse Troop, 4/2CR. “This goes a long way in showing our allies that we are committed in protecting each other.”
To the people of Czechia, this event was more than just showcasing NATO’s strength but also about the strong partnership between the Czech Republic and the United States.
“I'm glad to honor the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and the Czech Republic,” said King. “I can announce that the United States will be the Special Partner Nation of Czechia during NATO days in Ostrava this September.”
Heavy participation by the U.S. Army and the Czech forces is expected this coming September as a reflection of the U.S. - CZ relationship. This show of unity was just a small part in the much larger multinational exercise, Saber Strike 18.
