WIESBADEN, Germany -- The Soldiers, Civilians, Local National employees, family and friends of the 2nd Theater Signal Brigade said farewell to the brigade’s commander at a ceremony June 1, 2018 in Wiesbaden.
U.S. Army Col. Jeff Worthington relinquished command of the brigade during a ceremony in the Clay Kaserne Fitness Center gymnasium. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Charles D. Smith will serve as acting commander until the brigade’s next designated commander, U.S. Army Col. Neil Khatod, assumes command later this month.
U.S. Army Maj. Gen. John W. Baker, the commanding general of U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command, praised Worthington for his passion, dedication and excellence.
“Today we gather to recognize the unwavering and dedicated service of an exceptional officer, a visionary leader and an exemplary Soldier,” Baker said. “Jeff Worthington has served the 2nd Theater Signal Brigade these past two years with literally every ounce of effort, discipline and determination in his body.”
Baker highlighted some of the many countries where the brigade has conducted missions or exercises during Worthington’s command, and explained how the brigade is helping to inform the Army as a whole through its accomplishments and lessons learned from integrating regionally allocated forces and support for the Atlantic Resolve mission, to communications interoperability, and more.
“Jeff and his 2nd (Theater) Signal (Brigade) are always committed to excellence, to our Army values and to our allies as they support operations, and wherever the 2nd Signal is needed, Jeff answered the call executing missions with precision and passion,” Baker said.
Worthington thanked the 2nd Theater Brigade service members, civilians and local national employees for their hard work and professionalism during his time in command, describing them as true professionals and patriots.
“During the past two years I’ve been honored to have had the privilege to see true professionalism at work. The local nationals, civilians and Soldiers impressed me at every turn,” Worthington said. “And it’s not just because of the hard work on many in this brigade, but of collective Team Signal here in Europe.”
Worthington then highlighted some of the brigade’s many accomplishments from the past two years, including winning five NETCOM Network Enterprise Center of the Year awards, the Enterprise Satellite Gateway – Landstuhl being named the Defense Information Systems Agency Europe 2016 European Gateway Facility of the Year, and multiple Department of the Army Supply Excellence awards, among others.
“I am proud to consider myself a member of the Brigade of Excellence and know that the men and women you see before you, seated alongside you and in the Network Enterprise Centers, Tactical Assembly Areas, COMSEC vaults and elsewhere across Europe and Africa are trained, ready and prepared for whatever our nation asks of them,” Worthington said.
Worthington is departing Wiesbaden for to serve as the J-6 for Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
