SAN DIEGO – Instructors from Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) San Diego earned two of the most prestigious information warfare community awards.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Matthew Stinkeoway, division officer for IWTC San Diego’s Information Warfare Team Trainer, was honored with the Rear Adm. Edwin T. Layton Award for Leadership and Mentorship. The Director of Naval Intelligence established the award in 2001 to recognize outstanding leadership and mentorship in the furtherance of naval intelligence performance.

“I am very humbled and grateful, for it is truly an honor to be selected for this very prestigious award,” said Stinkeoway. “I have to thank the amazing team of civilian and military information warfare professionals that I have had the pleasure to work with for this award. They are a truly impressive team of experts who push each other to do better each day and to provide the best training possible to the fleet.”

Chief Intelligence Specialist Taylor Culberson, who serves as intelligence division leading chief petty officer, received the Vice Adm. Rufus L. Taylor Award for Excellence in Intelligence Instruction. Since 1989, the award has honored instructors who exhibit principles which Taylor exemplified throughout his career.

When asked what it means to have these award recipients on his staff, Cmdr. Kelly Robbins, commanding officer of IWTC San Diego, responded, “They make my job easy. Both men are incredibly talented leaders with contagious enthusiasm and impeccable standards of personal conduct. I am proud to be their commanding officer”.

IWTC San Diego, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training, provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
