    Hill Air Force Base

Hill Air Force Base, Utah – The Hill Aerospace Museum has a new addition to its Fighter Gallery.

Museum staff and volunteers spent the morning May 20 moving and rearranging static aircraft displays at the east end of the museum’s Fighter Gallery. Working with very limited space, the staff and volunteers relocated eight different aircraft, as well as many armament displays, to reposition all three F-16 aircraft together in a missing man formation, where they will remain on display to highlight the diverse Hill AFB F-16 mission, as well as the sacrifices of our Airmen.

The new Thunderbird F-16A aircraft, tail number 81-0678, was flown by the Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team from 1983-1992.

After nearly a decade of thrilling airshow crowds around the world with the Thunderbirds, the aircraft was reassigned to 93rd Fighter Squadron at Homestead AFB, Florida. However, shortly thereafter, it was transferred to the 364th Training Squadron at Sheppard AFB, Texas, where it became a static trainer.

From there, after years of service, in a variety of different roles, it was decommissioned and acquired by the Hill Aerospace Museum.

While the aircraft is currently on display in the museum, it will be formally unveiled during a private ceremony in conjunction with the Warriors Over the Wasatch Air and Space Show June 23-24.
