HONOLULU, Hawaii (June 1, 2018) – A Regional Health Command-Pacific (RHC-P) Soldier is the winner of a top Army award.

Master Sgt. Erron Alor, is selected as the Army’s premier Equal Opportunity Advisor (EOA), taking home the recognition at the Secretary of the Army Awards in Washington, D.C. today at the Pentagon for his dedication to diversity and impact on the total force.

Secretary of the Army, Mark Esper, provided opening remarks during the ceremony and expressed his gratitude for the efforts of all awardees. “The quality of your service, your initiative and your unwavering commitment contribute greatly to why our Army is the respected and professional organization that it is. Our strength…the strength of this nation is our Army. And our Army strength comes from your values, your dedication and your efforts,” Esper stated.

Alor, who has held the RHC-P EOA position since December 2017, received the Diversity and Leadership Award for Equal Opportunity Advisor by distinguished himself through standard setting leadership and commitment as the EOA for more than 4,000 Soldiers in the RHC-P area of responsibility. His tireless work to establish and maintain positive command climates resulted in maximized human potential and addressed inequitable treatment without fear of reprisal or exclusion.

He also standardized training that increased unit cohesiveness, trust and teamwork, and mentored 143 battalion and company equal opportunity leaders. Additionally, Alor worked to bridge the gap between the local community and the Army by helping initiate a “call to service” program for the Tripler Equal Opportunity Office that encouraged 35 individuals to volunteer more than 7,000 hours of service.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition and am grateful for the leadership, mentorship and direction of countless Soldiers who not only encouraged me in this position, but who collectively exemplify the pillars of a diverse and high-functioning EO organization,” said Alor. “The true winner during this ceremony is the Army. I am proud to say that our Army is committed to advancing the best Soldiers, regardless of artificial barriers, prejudices or preferences and that all Soldiers have an equal opportunity to serve this nation with dignity and respect,” added Alor.

RHC-P Chief of Staff, Col. Laura Trinkle, who was on hand to witness Alor’s receipt of the honor, extended her congratulations. “His dedication to equal opportunity through diversity and inclusion is paramount to the success of all the organizations across RHC-P. His selection for this recognition at the DA level is a testament to his professionalism and commitment to the Soldiers and civilians within our ranks, “stated Trinkle.

Prior to his RHC-P position, he was dual hatted as the Tripler Army Medical Center and regional EOA.

It’s been a successful couple of months for Alor, who also recently received his promotion to the rank of Master Sgt. in a Ford Island ceremony aboard the historic USS Missouri May 29 and additionally received the Order of Military Medical Merit in a ceremony at Tripler Army Medical Center on April 26.

Another RHC-P employee, Tanya Porter, a clinical nurse at Madigan Army Medical center also received a Secretary of the Army Civilian Award for Valor at the ceremony. Porter is honored for her selfless efforts to save passengers in the 2017 Amtrak 501 derailment.
